Welcome to the Beacon Autumn – 2019 edition featuring this year’s FI Campus, the new fi-compass Showcase Award, an interview with Jonathan Denness, Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and the pilot Knowledge Hub event on State aid. This edition also includes the Multi-region assistance (MRA) project on Innovative Financial Instruments in support of the Social Economy (IFISE), a recently published video case study about the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research's (MIUR) financial instrument supporting Research, Development and Innovation, as well as information about new ways to stay up-to date with the latest fi-compass content.

FI Campus 2019 – Looking ahead to 2021 and beyond

FI Campus 2019, which will be held in Brussels on 4-5 December 2019, has been announced. This year’s theme for the flagship event of fi-compass is ‘Looking ahead to 2021 and beyond’.

FI Campus 2019 will include a number of sessions aimed at helping fi-compass stakeholders prepare for the next programming period, which starts in January 2021.

Experts from the European Commission will deliver interactive presentations on key topics including the new Common Provisions Regulations and InvestEU. In the new framework, the increased use of financial instruments is encouraged. To support this, the regulations introduce a number of simplifications and new flexibilities. A new, additional option will also be created under which the Member States can commit Structural and Investment Funds to the InvestEU fund.

This year’s FI Campus 2019 will feature a new award to celebrate the success of the promoters of financial instruments featured in the fi-compass Showcase.

The fi-compass MRA-IFISE project: creating social impact through ESIF financial instruments

IFISE is the short title of the ‘Innovative Financial Instruments in support of the Social Economy’, a fi-compass Multi-region assistance (MRA) project.

Follow fi-compass and stay up to date with the newest content on ESIF financial instruments

There is a new way to stay up to date with fi-compass content. Registered fi-compass users can now choose to follow content relating to one or more European Structural and Investment Funds and/or EU Member States.

A new DG AGRI-EIB initiative in support of rural infrastructure investment and smart villages development

A new initiative of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) encourages the use of EAFRD financial instruments by EU Member States for rural infrastructure development and smart villages.

The fi-compass Knowledge Hub – State aid

The first of a new type of fi-compass event, ‘the fi-compass Knowledge Hub’, took place on 19 June 2019. This initial pilot event was held in Brussels on the subject of ‘State aid and financial instruments to support SME competitiveness and energy efficiency’.
