New publications about ESIF financial instruments available

The use of financial instruments in Cohesion Policy reaches record high. Halfway through the 2014-2020 EU budget period, the amount of European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) channelled through financial instruments already exceeds the amount invested via such instruments in the 2007-2013 period. New data published on 13 December 2018 by the European Commission shows that by the end of 2017, the amount invested via financial instruments reached nearly EUR 18.8 bn, an increase of over EUR 5 bn compared to the previous year.

FI Campus 2018 ‘What next for ESIF financial instruments? Creating new opportunities under the Omnibus Regulation’ took place on 3-5 December 2018 in Brussels. This flagship fi-compass event had a comprehensive programme covering presentations about ESIF/EFSI combination and further opportunities offered by the Omnibus Regulation, case studies, workshops, discussion panels and fund-specific sessions. Final report: fi-compass State aid survey

The fi-compass State aid survey was conducted in May and June 2018. It focused on the experience of fi-compass stakeholders of implementing financial instruments under the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) within the State aid rules. The survey, received over 300 responses and provides a good insight into the current practice amongst fi-compass practitioners in this subject area.
